Get to Know Dr. Scott Gruwell
Dr. Gruwell is currently serving as the Senior Manager of Clinical Education for North America with the Straumann Group and is excited to be joining Gentling Dental!
Dr. Scott Gruwell is a graduate of The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Dental School. He began a 10-year career in the military as a member of the U.S. Air Force (USAF) Reserve while still in dental school. He was commissioned into the USAF following graduation and completed a residency in periodontics at Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland Air Force Base (AFB), TX and earned his master’s degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Following his residency, he was assigned to Bolling AFB in Washington, DC and served as the Chief of Periodontics while also teaching in two AEGD programs.
For his final military assignment, he returned to the USAF Periodontics Residency in San Antonio, TX and served as both the Director of Clinical Periodontics and the Director of Postgraduate Education at the Air Force Postgraduate Dental School. Following his military career, Dr. Gruwell spent time in private practice in Houston, TX (Perio Health Professionals) and in South Burlington, VT (Associates in Periodontics). After his time in private practice, Dr. Gruwell felt the pull to return to education and was selected to serve as the Periodontics Program Director at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Dentistry. While at UMKC, he also completed his MBA at the Bloch School of Management.
Just prior to joining Straumann and Gentling, Dr. Gruwell spent nearly 4 years in the Department of Dental Specialties and as the Periodontics Program Director at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
